Student & Family Life

Mission Statement

Here at First Baptist Church, our purpose is Jesus Christ.  We treat our youth as full members of the Body of Christ and as full members of our congregation.  Our goal is to abide in the truth of God’s Word so that we can serve as salt and light to our world around us.  We seek to honor and serve our God and Savior by living lives of purpose.  Because to us, Jesus is not just some supernatural guy who exists simply to meet our individual needs.  He is not a pocket hero or a rescue app or a heavenly Santa Claus.  Jesus is God.  He is the reigning, soon-coming King of all creation, and we want to be virtuous and productive disciples of Christ, “so that in everything He might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1:18).

Teaching Jesus Christ is a way of life.  It is something that must be done continuously.  We recognize that parents are primarily responsible for teaching the things of God to their children.  The Student Ministry is committed to working alongside the family to teach the Word of Christ so our youth can grow spiritually and emotionally into mature disciples and productive citizens.

The youth at First Baptist Church know the Bible is the perfect Word of God, the authoritative source of all truth and knowledge.  We affirm that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).  To properly train up our youth in the way they should go, we use the Bible to teach Christ-centered theology so that we can adequately serve Jesus as our Lord and Savior, as the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Our youth group also is committed to personal relationships, and we understand the only way to have a proper relationship with each other is through Jesus Christ.  Human love fails because it is human.  The only way love wins is through the perfect love of Jesus.  He is the Bridge that joins us, uniting us through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Only when we work together as a unified body of believers can we preach the Word, reach the world, and live lives that matter.
