“A Celebration in Song”

“The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to Man that he should proclaim the Word of God through music.”  Martin Luther

“All of my life in every season, You are still God.  I have a reason to sing; I have a reason to worship.”  Anonymous

“It is the pleasing of God that is at the heart of worship.”  R. C. Sproul

I have had some great worship experiences in my life.  There have been times when I have wept with joy and awe, as I lifted up praises in song.  There have been moments when my voice cracked with emotion, and words wouldn’t even come.  And this past weekend surpassed them all.  I had the wonderful privilege of participating in the Gospel Music Association’s Celebration of the Dove Awards, held in New York City at Carnegie Hall.  The experience was a gift from my daughter, and she went with me.  We joined 180 other singers and choir members who combined as a concert choir to accompany giants in the Christian music industry, including Russ Taff, Donnie McClurkin, Mark Lowery, Hezekiah Walker, Danny Gokey, and Natalie Grant.  These wonderful artists performed several of their greatest hits, and we sang back-up along with them, to an enthusiastic and worshipful audience.  It was indeed a two hour worship service, and I shall never forget it.

Some of the lyrics that we lifted in song:

“The Lord liveth!  And blessed be the Rock!  And let the God of my salvation be exalted!”  Donnie McClurkin

“Jesus, worthy is the Lamb that was slain for us, the Son of God and man…you are high and lifted up.  And all the world will praise your great name.” Natalie Grant

“He is moving with a love so deep, Hallelujah for the victory!  Good things are coming even when we can’t see, we can’t see it. But we believe it.  Maybe we just haven’t seen it yet.”  Danny Gokey

“There is hope for the brokenhearted, there is peace for the troubled soul;  there is help for the one discarded.  There is God, and He’s in control.”  McClurkin

“You’re my brother, you’re my sister; so take me by the hand.  Together we will work until He comes!  There’s no foe that can defeat us when we’re walking side by side.  As long as there is love, we will stand.”  Russ Taff

“Sing hallelujah to our God.  Glory hallelujah is due our God. Every praise, every praise is to our God.”  Hezekiah Walker

The combined talents and efforts of all of those involved in this experience resulted in a tremendous time of worship.  It stirred our souls, and those of the audience.  And we will never know what lives may be changed or impacted by God’s spirit as it moved there that night.  But I know, that as long as I have breath, I will continue to praise the Lord!

Psalm 150:6  “Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord.”
