Devotional #338
“See the Light”
June 7, 2020
“I know this road is getting hard, I heard you say it’s overwhelming.
I said I’d never be too far, and I meant that from the heart.
I see the mountain getting higher;  I see it stacking up against you.
I always said you were a fighter, but you’ve got your doubts tonight.
But I’m here to remind you, it don’t matter where you come from.
I know we can get through this, it might feel it’s been so long.
But we keep on keepin’ on, it might feel like an uphill climb.
Always some kind of battle, but you’ve got more than you on your side….
And we’re gonna see the light…yeah, you and me, we’re gonna see the light.”  Toby Mac
As I listened to the radio last week, this song caught my attention.  I can’t remember a time when I felt more in the “darkness.” And it’s hard to be positive, and have an optimistic attitude.  But I love the lyrics above that say, “you’ve got more than you on your side.”  I have a source of strength, endurance, perseverance, patience, and love that flows from my faith in God, that extends way beyond me.  And as the song reminds me, we are going to see the light eventually.  Businesses are beginning to open back up, restaurants can begin serving customers, people are emerging from their isolation.  Toby Mac, the songwriter himself, says about this song, “See the LIght talks about stepping into community rather than retreating into isolation when turmoil enters our lives.  It’s We instead of I, us instead of you.  We need each other, we are family.”
Light was one of the first things created by God.  Therefore, it must be one of the most vital elements in our life.  Jesus spoke saying, “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12
As we go out this week, hopefully we can all shed a little light around us.  We can show others that hope and optimism can be found in the one who gave us the light, not only with the rising sun each day,  but also in His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.  We’re gonna see the light!
