Devotional #342
“A Future and a Hope”
July 5, 2020

I wake every morning now, dreading to turn on the morning news.  The reports of the spreading pandemic,

the upheaval and turmoil of the current racial tension, and the political atmosphere can be depressing and

disturbing.  The fear of what may happen next can be overwhelming.  It is easy to get caught up in the turmoil,

and to feel discouraged and defeated.

Romans 5:4 states, “but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces

perseverance; perseverance produces character; and character produces hope.”  Hope is the anchor I need

to take hold of.  God will never forsake us, or leave us.  In times like these, I must strengthen my faith by

reading God’s word daily, praying with expectation and sincerity, seeking His will for my life, asking for His

protection, and finding ways to serve Him and make a difference in my community and my nation.  God is

the only answer to every question we may have about the future and our place in it.  He’s still available, still

on His throne, still loving us, forgiving us, seeking us, and finding us.  When I put my trust in Him, His

peace lifts my discouragement and defeats my fear.

I just need to make sure I spend some time at His throne in worship and prayer before I turn the TV on!

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord; plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to

give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11
